Hoi An Local Events
Tet is the celebration of the Vietnamese New Year. It literally means the first morning of the first day of the New Year. In 2008 it will be the year of the rat, also representing the beginning of a 12 year cycle.
The Tet celebrations last for 5 days (starting on 6th February in 2008), with the national holiday occurring for 3 of those days, but can be longer in some parts of Vietnam.
As part of the celebrations, homes are cleaned as a symbolic gesture of cleaning the all the bad luck from the previous year, and can include changing appearances of houses (such as painting) as well as family members receiving new clothes & shoes.
Le Tru Tich is a special midnight ceremony held on New Years Eve (6th February) and serves to see out the old year and bring in the New Year. During these celebrations, firecrackers, gongs and other festive items are used as part of the celebration.
On New Years Day, the people of Vietnam choose their actions and activities carefully, as they believe the events on New Years Day determine their luck and fortune for the coming year.

Hoian Full Moon Night
01/01/2008 - 31/12/2008
Place: Hoian Ancient Town
Every lunar month, on the 14th day, there is a full moon night in Hoi An, when the old town is lit by the moon and houses are lit by graceful and colorful lanterns. On this evening, all kinds of vehicles are lifted off town and all the people, both locals and visitors comfortably walk and enjoy themselves in a new world, the world of tranquility, peace, poetry and beauty. Here, in an old house, local poets are enjoying their own poems recited by some ladies in the melodious accompany of a 16-string long zither player. There, in the porch of a family chapel, the traditional orchestra is giving passers by beautiful tunes of the old days while young ladies are singing out sweet, lyrical folk songs.
