We weren't happy because:
1. We had been on an overnight bus for 12 hours and just wanted to get straight to the room with no hassle.
2. We felt like the hotel had planned to rip us off once we arrived.
3. The staff member who took us to our room expected us to just agree and setle for paying 15$ instead of the 12$ as confirmed originally.
4. Maybe we were already in the standard room and they were trying to pass it off as a delux and pocket the difference.
Furthermore:
5. The room was at the fron of the hotel and from 5.30am we were disturbed by the building work surrounding the hotel. The shutters weren't sound proof at all.
There were also a group of local women who sat at the front of the hotel talking loudly around 5.30am too.
The hotel staff kept trying to sell us train/bus tickets but it's about time someone taught these people that once they've tried to rip you off without apologising for there mistakes that customers will not trust them to honestly organise there onward journeys. We bought the overnight bus ticket from a travel shop in the centre of Hoi An 3$ cheaper per ticket than the price quoted by the hotel staff.
It would have been more acceptable to us on arrival for the staff of the hotel to say, sorry, we have made a mistake and unfortunately there aren't any standard rooms available as per you're booking but we will upgrade you to a delux room for the same price as a good will gesture. This is standard practice in other countries. Vietnam hotels still need to learn a thing or two about customer care and need to worry less about how they can take advantage of their customers."
